Looking forward to seeing what happens when you try to shut down GPT in Windows 12.

No worries, Kamala is on it. At least she can spell A.I.

Chatting with a FCK’N AT&T BOT named Sara. I’m trying to reset a failed internet connection at a distant location and she(it) keeps asking me to check for steady or blinking lights and press a reset button. FIVE times I told here I’m not there and can’t do it. Then she hangs up.

The company initially said it was banning ChatGPT and design software Canva, but later removed a line in the advisory that included those products. After initial publication of this story, Microsoft reinstated access to ChatGPT.
Geez, given their huge bet on GPT and their rush to incorporate it into their products, the optics on that would have been terrible.
“Here, use our product”
“Do you use it yourself?”
“Oh, fuck no”. -

Facebook Messenger can’t die fast enough for me but a huge number of Cambodians (including my wife) use it and nothing else so I’m stuck with it. Chhunly sent me some audio recordings that he recorded with messenger. Of course I need to do something with the recordings but Messenger doesn’t let download them. So I had to install half a dozen different apps until I found one that would let me record the recording. Then I sent him a text message that had a mistake in it but you can’t edit sent messages. Fuck me.

cuntI am convinced that if you pass on and St Peter rejects you, at the end of the down escalator you will hear “welcome to AT&T”. Total shithole company.

@Gators1 when I talk to AT&T on the phone they’re pretty good , Comcast was the worst. When I mentioned it to a repair tech he laughed and said both companies use the same call center service.

Fuck Samsung!

It may be a toss-up between AT&T and Verizon . . .
Verizon is a bit of the throwback. They offer some very good products, which, as long as you do not need support, can be excellent.
But when you need support in the field, the techs are in a strong union and they do get a lot of overtime. The “bosses” of the field techs are non-union salaried foremen and managers. The foreman are titularly in charge, but they can only make suggestions as to what the field people should do. If the foremen or supervisors cannot manage the people who don’t actually answer to them, they can be fired or replaced. The field guys pretty much have jobs for life.
Moral of the story here is to be very courteous, respectful and grateful to the field guys and if you have to vent, ask to speak to an officer of the corporation who actually does practically nothing . . . and tell them to fuck off!

I have not needed support from Verizon and the guy that installed my internet was probably the best telco tech I have had in my life. He even showed me how to rewire the thing in case I wanted to change the outlet my router was attached to. I am guessing there are plenty of horror stories out there though, but AT&T isn’t just shitty for customer service, their products and infrastructure suck ass as well. My dad had an old email account tied to his AT&T service and they eventually outsourced it to yahoo mail and then wanted to “encourage” people to get off it so they wouldn’t have to pay, so they downgraded the spam protection and he got spammed all to hell. And their website was the worst corporate site I have seen with significant lag, and getting lost all the time. Their customer support made me want to learn curse words in Indian.

Jesus; that’s bad.
Verizon outsourced to AOL mail, so there’s that sort of parity afoot.

Yeah, I wanted to get my dad off that shit and onto a reasonable tech stack, but they wouldn’t listen. Came back to fuck me in the end when they moved quickly and their email disappeared and all their account verifications were tied to their fucking landline phone. I still can’t get access to some accounts because of the verification paranoia going on these days.

CENSORSHIP!!!
So why is Google erasing the aircraft from satellite imagery of commercial airports? This is Dulles and there is literally no time, day or night, when all the gates are empty. Yet this shows only one aircraft on the field.
