My favourite weather website just changed their already super functional interface to some disgusting steaming pile of shit instead.

Tell them to hire the expert UI programmers that did this award winning forum!

            Mwmbl - Search

An open source, non-profit, search engine with beautifully minimalist search results that returned exactly the only 6 links that exist on the obscure topic I just tested it with.

When I saw it I almost wept (figuratively) after wrestling with Bing all day where it insists on shoe horning, massive and useless AI responses (and ads for the useless AI responses) into the first page results.

It’s a pity that “mwmbl” is going to die on the vine because its creator idioticly gave it a name you can’t pronounce and won’t remember how to spell.

This popped up in Edge on Android just now:

                Screenshot_2023-09-20-18-39-12-47_df198e732186825c8df26e3c5a10d7cd.jpg

I read up on it and it apparently blocks YouTube ads. A bit cheeky from a company who is putting their own ads in every spare inch of screen real-estate on Bing and Windows.

Sounds like the old Microsoft is back. The EU will be a bit richer soon.

Yeah, I saw that one. I think the data they used to train their LLM or something? Wonder how many times you can find data that says “all obey your master Bill Gates!” in there?

Instead of your GPU initially generating everything in whatever your screen resolution is, it does it at a lower resolution and then they use some AI tool to fill in the missing pixels.

It’s faster / less demanding and probably almost necessary for some situations where you have a 4K+ display and are running a AAA game with the highest graphics settings.

Yeah but it doesn’t render so good yet, especially with games with fast moving objects. Things leave a “trail” behind them as they move fast and as the AI struggles to fill the missing pixels.

@Lob12 yeah right. I’ve only read casually about it and won’t get to try it until my next laptop upgrade. Since I’m a tight arse, that will be a few years away unfortunately.

This happens on some TVs with action movies and sports.
