@tigger Definitely freaked out. As much as my attention whoring here suggests otherwise, I’m very reserved IRL.

@Poo, I don’t know if I can explain it right, but do you ever hear Indians presenting and they have this habit of speeding up and their voice gets higher as they approach “the”, then there is a dramatic pause, then the last word. So like “then you complete the installation of THE…database.” Been hearing it a lot lately and it’s annoying.

I don’t recognize it from your description but I might if I heard it. We get all sorts and some are completely unintelligble to a western ear. The worst are the ones speaking a very distinctive Indian version of English but at 500 words a minute. I’ve had to ask others via DM if they knew what they were saying sometimes. Thankfully they’re rare.

Hm, not really. Maybe I will.

Maybe it’s regional to a city where these guys are based or some new fad with presenting or something. I don’t remember hearing it before, but have heard it from several people in the last year. The 500 words per minute ones are the worst though, especially when you need a quick summary of the some tech thing and the only video you can find is made by one of them.

You want a quick summary and they are giving you 500 words per minute! There’s just no pleasing some people!

@Hog this is that Indian speech pattern I was ranting about. Emphasize “the”, then pause then whatever in a deeper tone.

Interesting. I recognize the tone change but the pause is pretty exaggerated and I can’t say I’ve noticed it before.

Spotted this today in one the IDEs I regularly use for work:

                              image.png

As near as I can find out, tab autocomplete has been a feature of IDEs since the late 90s / early 2000s. I guess now that it’s powered by an “AI Core Assistant” it’s awesome or something and worthy of more money.

I think it’s more like every software company has to incorporate “AI” in their products these days or customers will think it’s obsolete shit. I keep getting that from the sales assholes calling me to sell data platforms. All they want to talk about is their new AI and I am like “Dude, I am not a guilable CXX. I need your platform to do what similar platforms did before #AI started trending.”

No but incognito mode is another tool if you don’t want data brokers having and selling a complete picture of your browsing habits. I mean, they can still match up a lot of that stuff even without third party cookies but it’s less accurate (specific) and not as valuable. You can disable third party cookies in your regular non-incognito mode too but that often breaks shit.

I read that Google engineers bust out laughing at the idea that incognito anonymizes you in any significant way. They have more ways to identify people besides cookies, especially if you are using Chrome.

@Gators1 Yeah it’s not so much Google I’m worried about. They at least seem somewhat ethical and responsive to public scrutiny and criticism. And they don’t want to sell your data, just use it for their own benefit.

It’s more the dozens of shitcunt data brokers that most of us have never heard of.

I don’t blame lithu for this, it’s coming from a dozen places and this website is no different to any other but:

I just logged into OT with a browser I never use for this website and only scrolled through the last 10 pages of this thread. UBlock has blocked 119 third-party cookies, the overwhelming majority of which exist purely to track you across multiple websites and then onsell the data about your browsing habits.

                                          image.png

Now I could use something like UBlock in every browser but it’s way too aggressive given I want to support advertising and the like.
